School of Prayer - Lenten Prayer Group

Our School of Prayer Lenten Prayer Group starts on Monday 2nd March at 7pm at English Martyrs with Sr Elizabeth CFR’s inspirational talk and prayer experience entitled “Lord, Teach us to Pray”. The next meeting will be on Monday 9th March and will be led by Fr Phillip and is entitled "Silence and Prayer", the following Monday Fr Steven will introduce aspects of Ignatian Spirituality and on Monday 23rd Fr Michael will lead a session on Lectio Divina.

"The best thing that ever happened in our parish!" Denise – This is what one parishioner said about a Mission given by the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal in our Diocese a few years ago. The themes of each day are as follows: Monday 23rd Feb God's Love, Tuesday 24th Feb God's Mercy, Wednesday 25th Feb God's Healing, Thursday 26th Feb – Holy Spirit. There will a conference on the theme each morning after the 9.30am Mass at St Joseph's Church and services each evening at 7.30pm at English Martyrs Church, which will include testimonies, talks, exposition, confessions and prayer.

Programme of Events

Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February: The Friars will preach at the Masses introducing the themes and hopes of the Mission.


Monday 23rd to Thursday 26th February: Each morning of the Mission, after the 9.30am Mass at St Joseph's Church (Somerset Road), one of the Friars will give a conference on the theme of the day. Each evening at 7.30pm in English Martyrs' Church (Teddington Avenue), the Friars and Sisters will lead Adoration, Worship, Devotions, give talks and testimonies.


Monday 23rd February at 7.30pm: Theme "God so loved the world He sent his only Son" John 3:16 the evening will focus on the sublime reality of God's love and the offer of reconciliation. The evening will include a testimony from one of the Friars.


Tuesday 24th February at 7.30pm: Theme "Yes Lord, You know that I love You" John 21:1-19 the evening will focus on God's loving initiative which asks us to respond, the reality of grace and its wondrous effects. The evening will include a service of reconciliation with the opportunity for individual confessions.


Wednesday 25th February at 7.30pm: Theme "I am the bread come down from Heaven" John 6:22-51 the evening will focus on the Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life and will include a Eucharistic healing service and benediction.


Thursday 26th February at 7.30pm: Theme "Empowered by the Holy Spirit" - Mass of the Holy Spirit.

Day of Adoration

On Saturday 7th February, we have a day of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in both English Martyrs' and St Joseph's Churches. It starts at 9am and continues until the respective Vigil Masses. All are welcome to come, encounter Jesus and dwell in his peaceful presence.
